Norfield Children's Center is a nonsectarian preschool with programs for 2,3,4, and 5-year olds.  Each Day is planned so that there is a variety of indoor and outdoor activities: singing, painting, free play, stories and hands-on exploration.

The school is led by two full-time directors, Penny Anderson and Mary Nosenzo.  Our staff are caring adults professionally trained to guide your child as he or she matures.  Each class has at least two teachers who are well versed in ways to ease adjustments from home to the larger world.  All teachers have been selected for their knowledge and experience.  We offer several preschool programs for children 2-5 to meet your needs.

 Two's

We offer a warm and nurturing Two's program that is often a child's first introduction to a drop-off group experience.  We carefully select activities and materials that relate to a Two's world.  Our program offers the opportunity to make choices, problem solve, develop independence and make friends in an atmosphere that is fun and caring.  Our morning consists of periods of free play, circle time, creative projects, music, snack and outside play.

We meet on Thursday and Friday mornings from October through May.  There is an 8:30 to 10:00 AM session or a 10:15 AM to 12:15 PM session.  The group size is limited to 8 children and two teachers.

3 Day Three's

The Three Day Three's program operates Monday through Wednesday from 9:00 to 11:30 AM.  It is limited in size to twelve children and two teachers.  Our program is for children who will be three by December 31st.

Our day begins with free play, when your child fine-tunes problem solving skills by choosing from a wide variety of age appropiate activities. The teachers prepare areas in the classroom to encourage growth in both fine and gross motor skill sets.   Our morning often includes any of the following: art, music, building blocks, play dough, dramatic play, vehicles, books, puzzles, manipulatives and tactile table exploration.  During this time, your child will have many opportunities to utilize socialization skills, gain practice with sharing and develop listening skills.  Following free play, the children join in circle time which includes singing songs, reading stories, rhymes, and playing games.  Snack and outside play conclude our morning.

5 Day Three's

The Five Day Three's program, available for children who are three by December 31, operates Monday through Friday from 9:00 to 11:30 AM.  A low student/teacher ratio is maintained to ensure a high quality experience for your child.

The school day begins with independent free-play, when your child chooses from a variety of activity areas around the room.  Each skill area is addressed in a different manner.  We may focus on fine motor skills within the context of, for example, building block towers one day and cutting paper for an art collage the next. Opportunities for expanding social skills, large motor skills, listening skills and adapting to the  group in general are provided daily.  The children join in circle time which includes, singing songs, reading stories, finger-plays, and games.  Snack and outside play conclude our morning.  The children are able to build on these skills throughout the week.

Four's

Our dynamic Five Day Fours program comes together Monday through Friday 9:00 to 11:45 AM.  Our teachers provide unique learning experiences in science, dramatic play and art.  Between three classrooms your child will have access to many activities:

  • constructive manipulatives
  • math readiness
  • hands on science
  • dramatic play
  • puppetry
  • puzzles
  • whole language
  • poetry and rhymes
  • games
  • process art

Our day encompasses outside play, circle time activities, indoor free play (allowing free choice among the three rooms), various projects, and a healthy snack.  This atmosphere promotes the very important problem-solving skills our children will need as they enter Kindergarten next fall.  Each teacher closes out the day with a story.
